The Radiologic Technology Program is administered by the Radiologic Technology Department of the College of Health Sciences. The curriculum is composed of two segments; pre-professional and professional Radiologic Technology. Pre-Radiologic Technology is concerned with instruction in general education and basic physical and biological sciences. The professional program is concerned with instruction in professional Radiologic Technology and related courses to prepare the student for professional practice. ULM is associated with several area hospitals at which students obtain their clinical education.

The field of Radiologic Technology (RT) is a rapidly growing field with many opportunities for growth. Radiographers can work in many different areas such as Diagnostic X-ray, fluoroscopy, surgery, and mobile examinations.
Computed Tomography (CT), Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Special Procedures (vascular studies) are areas of advancement for radiographers.
3 Cool Classes

1Patient Care in Radiography

Basic patient care as applied to the radiology department, communication skills, professional ethics, isolation techniques and emergency procedures including CPR training.

2Ethics & Law in Radiography

This course will provide students with a fundamental background in ethics as well as elements of ethical and professional behavior. Students will be introduced to legal terminology, principles, professional standards and the American Society of Radiologic Technology scope of practice.

3Radiographic Practicum I – VI

Radiographic clinical competency training and evaluation. Students will graduate with approximately 1,900 hours of clinical training.

Graduates of the Radiologic Technology Program at Shawnee State University earn an Associate of Applied Sciences degree. The program covers six academic semesters that combine classroom instruction and clinical experience. All classroom instruction is held at the University while clinical experience is gained at one or more of the nine medical centers located throughout the Southern Ohio and Northern Kentucky area.

MISSION STATEMENT:

The mission of the PCC Radiologic Technology Program is to prepare students for the entry- level skills required of a Radiologic Technologist by providing high quality instruction with a commitment to multicultural sensitivity and by promoting growth of the student as an individual. The Radiology Technology program is accredited by Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT).
The program goals prepare the student:
To graduate with the competency and skills required for routine radiographic procedures within a Radiology or Diagnostic Imaging Center.
With cognitive as well as the affective skills that require problem-solving, appropriate communication and critical thinking required of the entry level Radiologic Technologist.
With the ability to value and employ patient care practices based on acceptable ethical behavior and established standards.
To establish and maintain an on-going assessment of skills and knowledge required of a practicing Radiologic Technology professional.
